Knowledge Valorisation Self Assessment

The Knowledge Valorisation Readiness Self-Assessment Tool is designed to support Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in evaluating their maturity and preparedness to engage in knowledge valorisation (KV). It provides a structured framework to assess six core KV channels—ranging from joint research and intersectoral mobility to citizen engagement and policy impact—across three enabling factors: environmental (external context and incentives), organisational (internal governance, resources, and structures), and individual (skills, motivation, and recognition of staff).

The tool leverages stakeholder perceptions, collected via a scalar scoring system, to identify how well the institution supports each channel. Although the tool is formally structured as a readiness assessment, its main purpose is to generate a comprehensive, multi-perspective snapshot of the current state (“as is”) of the university’s valorisation ecosystem. For this reason, institutions are strongly encouraged to form a multidisciplinary team and conduct an internal mapping exercise prior to using the tool. This ensures that responses are accurate, informed, and context sensitive.

As output, the tool delivers maturity scores across channels and factors, classifying institutional readiness levels as low, medium, or high—a basis for further strategic reflection.
