Skills and competences assessment

In the following section, you will find the Skills and Competences Self-Assessment Tool for researchers and research managers. The self-assessment tool is designed as a complementary instrument to the Open Science Professional Profiles developed within the KALEIDOS project.

This section provides resources offering an overview of the project’s methodology and key outputs, providing context for the development of the Open Science Professional Profiles for researchers and research managers. It also presents the self-assessment tool, along with guidelines on how to carry out the assessment and evaluate these competences.

Open Science profiles Researchers and Research Managers

The self-assessment tool supports both institutional and individual reflection on skills related to Knowledge Valorisation and Open Science.

• At the institutional level, the self-assessment helps higher education institutions and research centres to review and adapt their current training offer, identifying strengths and gaps in relation to the competences promoted by KALEIDOS. It provides a structured basis for improving training strategies and aligning them with evolving research and innovation priorities.

• At the individual level, the tool enables researchers to evaluate their own competences, identify areas for development, and plan targeted training actions to support their career progression. In particular, it supports researchers in strengthening their capacity to promote Knowledge Valorisation practices throughout their careers.

The self-assessment is fully aligned with the KALEIDOS competence framework for Knowledge Valorisation and provides insights across three key areas: collaboration, systemic vision, and impact.

To ensure a meaningful and realistic assessment, it is recommended to complement your self-reflection with feedback from mentors, peers, or supervisors.

Objectives

Assess current levels of knowledge, skills, and practices in Knowledge Valorisation and related areas at both individual and institutional level.
Support structured self-reflection by helping researchers identify their strengths and recognise gaps in key competences for career development.
Guide the adaptation and improvement of training and capacity-building programmes based on identified needs and in alignment with the KALEIDOS competence framework.
Promote professional development by supporting researchers in planning targeted learning pathways to strengthen their growth and impact.
